Pileated woodpecker.  Biggest woodpecker species in North America.  This one is only a juvenile.  There’s a really big sucker who makes an appearance every now and then.  There’s a half dead tree out back that they’ve practically destroyed.

Lots of maggots though.  I don’t really mind – they help break down the proteins.
